1AB3 Homework for Monday 28th April

Finish your description (first draft in your jotter). You should write 1/2 – 1 jotter page. Remember, this is a DESCRIPTION, not a story. Use the checklist to make sure you include all the things you should use in your description.

‘Percy Jackson’ – Chapter 16 Writing Task

Choose ONE of the following options:

The Perfect Trap The Lotus Casino is designed to make kids never want to leave. Do you think it would keep you entranced? Write a description of a place that would be a “perfect trap” to keep you there forever. What would such a place look like? What activities would be available? What kind of food?

OR

Time Travel Time travels slowly in the Lotus Casino. Darrin has been there since the 1970s but he’s still a kid, and it seems to him that he’s only been there a few days. Would you like to spend some time in the Lotus Casino? How far ahead in time would you like to travel before you stepped outside and why? (Remember, though, you could never go back.) Write a description of what you think the world would be like when you left the casino.

CHECKLISTYou should include the following in your description:

The five senses –  sight, sound, taste, touch, smell

Figures of speech –  similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, alliteration, personification

1AB3 – homework for 24th Feb

Greek Gods / Goddesses – Research and Presentation Project

You are going to work in pairs to produce an A3 poster giving the following information about the God / Goddess which you have been given (see below if you have lost your sheet):

   The god’s name

A picture of them (printed or drawn)

   Who they are related to

   Their sphere of control

   Their animal or symbol

   Any other facts / information

You will have time to work on your poster in class. Your poster is going to go on the classroom wall, so make it look as neat and as colourful as possible. You could use ICT (PowerPoint or Prezi) to back up your oral presentation to the class if you wish, but you will have to prepare this in your own time.

**Your homework is to RESEARCH and TAKE NOTES on your God / Goddess for Monday 24th Feb. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE YOUR POSTER, JUST PRINT / NOTE DOWN INFORMATION ABOUT THE GOD / GODDESS**

Gods / Goddesses:

Sinead & Dugald – Hephaestus

Anna & Liam – Hermes

Matthew & Ciara – Zeus

Samantha & Ciaran – Ares

Ross & Kathleen – Artemis

Nicole & Michael – Dionysus

Gabbi & Holly – Athena

Ikrah, & Molly – Apollo

Jamil & Carolann – Hera

Uwais & Ella – Poseidon

1AB3 – homework for January

You are going to be doing a book review after Christmas, so I’d like you all to choose a book and get reading! If the thought of reading a whole book scares you silly, what about listening to one instead? If you enjoyed the little taster of The Hunger Games in class, you can listen to the whole thing on YouTube for free! If you’re a keen reader, try to choose something a little more challenging than you’re used to reading.
You’ll be given a booklet in class to help you to take some notes to prepare yourself for doing the book review in January. Happy reading!

Ps To help out other people who might be stuck trying to choose a book, how about using the comments box below to write your name, the name of your favourite book and the author and a sentence saying why you like it…

‘The Hunger Games’ Chapter 1 – Alternative Ending 1/2 to 1 Jotter page You can type it if you want.

Imagine that you are one of the other children at the Reaping. You are waiting to see whose name is going to be picked.

Imagine how you would be feeling and what thoughts might be running through your mind:
• You might be part of the draw for the first time or this might be your last.
• Is your name entered many times or only a few?
• How do you feel about the draw? Will you escape?
• What about your friends or family?
• What do you feel as the name is picked?
• What happens immediately after the first name is read out?

TASK:
Write an alternative ending which describes the moment the name of the first District 12 tribute is drawn out.
Choose your words and images carefully to make your writing tense and exciting to read. Use vivid techniques. Check your sentences and paragraphs carefully.
Write your ending from: ‘The crowd draws in a collective breath and then you can hear a pin drop, and…’ (p20) OR you can start a little bit before this if you want.
